| When
was the last time you visited the Royal Armouries? There’s
always something new to see...
Experience the excitement of reliving some of the
most important moments in history – from Ancient Greece
to the present day. Costumed demonstrations, authentic re-enactments,
entertaining films and interactive technology all help you discover
what it was really like to live in another time. From April to
October we recreate historical horse shows, world famous jousting
tournaments and entertaining falconry displays.
The Royal Armouries is Britain's oldest national
museum and holds the world’s greatest collection of arms
and armour. There are over 7,500 fascinating exhibits in our five
themed galleries: War, Tournament, Oriental, Hunting and Self
Defence. All have a story to tell. Take a close look at some of
the armour Henry VIII actually wore, see the largest armour in
the world and find out what it was like to hold a 15th-century
flintlock musket.
New in 2006 - Hands on History
explores the story of human ingenuity through the themes of threat
and response. It introduces to the War gallery four interactive
installations examining bows, edged weapons, armour and firearms.
Each offers 'hands on' opportunities, and through tactile experiences
engages the visitor in thinking about the changing nature of warfare
over the past thousand years.
Our impressive Hall of Steel is once again open
to the public after extensive refurbishment. The many shields,
swords and helmets have all been cleaned and conserved and can
now be seen in their full, gleaming glory. Prepare to be dazzled!
